THE PEOPLE'S CHOICES 11/04

Here is the thread for the reader's choices and recommendations for terrific public golf values! Just add a comment to this thread for this month's discussion. We've already heard from two readers. david@sabels.org recommends The Links at Union Vale in Westchester, NY. The price looks good and industry reviews make it a favorable choice for a spring review by AWITP. Tabby@deninindustries.com touts De La Vega in Santa Cruz, CA. Our crack research staff (that's me) is hard at work researching details. in the meantime, make more recommendations here.

I'm from Michigan (GO BIG BLUE). Have you considered High Pointe? Tom Doak the guy that did Bandon Dunes designed it, then the owners made some changes. Beautiful and inexpensive. Had some great links features before the "renovation."

Is Pinehurst going to get in? There are 8 courses, soon to be 10 and it held a U.S. Open. Its expensive, but a mecca of the game...

High Pointe is interesting...very good price and many people have written that its a good value. Maybe all you writing in might make it a "People's choice" which will be featured in the national volume! Pinehurst is indeed one of our greatest facilities. value is a bit as an issue - packages for the No. 2 course begin at $350 per round, $686 for a round and a room...very high. What do you readers feel about it as a golf value?

NYC will the subject of a feature soon. Yes, without a doubt, not only is Bethpage the best value in NYC, but one of the entire country's quintessential golf values. Briefly, other good options in the $40-$60 twilight range are Richter Park, Casperkill, Center Valley, and Centennial...note Ballyowen, a very good course, charges $125...$85 twilight (as do Twisted Dune and Pine Barrens). Perhaps the best golf value of any of the Empire Golf facilities is Pine Hill which can be played for $70 at twilight. They have the best amenities and food as well.
