This looks like it might set up Final Four match-ups between modern masters (Doak v. C&C) and deceased designers (Ross v. MacKenzie), which makes sense. Could be a CBMac or Old Tom upset of Ross in some clashes, however. NGLA alone might warrant that. I am sure that you set up your brackets for this scenario to play out...
Wouldn't it be fun if the final was Modern Tom v. Old Tom?
The best way to make this thing fair and unpredictable would be to identify an architect's six best courses and then randomly choose one for each matchup and then have the merits of those two selected courses determine who advances to the next round.
Certainly a bold exercise to seed the living guys, in any event.
I like this idea, but I like the idea of doing it with golf courses too. Jay, will you do that bracket next?
